World Radiology Day (also known as World Radiography Day or International Day of Radiology) is celebrated annually on November 8. It marks the anniversary of the discovery of X-rays by German physicist Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen in 1895.

Under the patronage of the Acting Dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences at the Center for Medical Sciences, Prof. Mohammed Shaaban Nadar, the Department of Radiological Sciences held its annual celebration to mark World Radiology Day, commemorating the discovery of X-rays more than 130 years ago.
Dr. Raed Al-Saeed, Chair of the Department of Radiological Sciences and head of the organizing committee for this celebration, stated that this event is part of the student activities that the department makes a point of organizing for its students every academic year.
He added that the event aims to familiarize students with various radiological examinations in both the diagnostic and nuclear sectors, noting that the program also included an introductory lecture on the history of radiology in Kuwait and a visual presentation on the department’s history.

The celebration of (World Radiology Day) was held at the Center for Medical Sciences on Thursday, November 21, 2024, in Jabriya, in collaboration with the Deanship of Student Affairs. The exhibition was supervised by Dr. Ebtehal Al-Qattan, a faculty member in the Department of Radiological Sciences. Ibtihal Al-Qattan and from the Cultural Activities Administration, the cultural supervisor Amna Al-Dhafiri, with the presence of the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ilham Al-Dosari, representing the Dean of the College of Allied Medical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nazar, and the head of the scientific department, Dr. Leila Ali Ghandaf, and the participants in the celebration were also honored.
The celebration included scientific and cultural presentations by the students aimed at raising community awareness about the importance of radiology and its various applications in the medical field. The events also featured demonstrations, educational panels, and interactive experiments reflecting the development of radiology technologies and their significance in diagnosis and treatment. Additionally, various activities were held at the exhibition, including artistic and cultural competitions and drawing.
Dr. In her speech, Dr. Ilham Al-Dosari praised the vital role played by the Radiological Sciences Department in preparing qualified medical personnel capable of facing the challenges of medical advancement. She also thanked the attendees and organizers for their efforts in making the event a success.
The event received a great deal of interaction from the attendees, as the exhibition aimed to strengthen the ties between academic staff, students, and the community, reflecting Kuwait Vision 2035. The college, with all its academic and administrative staff, strives to provide distinguished education and pioneering community service.

The Radiological Sciences Department at the College of Health Sciences held its annual celebration for World Radiography Day. The event included several lectures by the head of radiology specialists at Al-Amiri Hospital, Omnia Ashkanani, and the radiology specialist at Al-Farwaniya Hospital, Latifa Al-Mutairi. Additionally, students from the department participated in an exhibition featuring various activities and booths related to radiology.
At the outset, the Associate Professor in the Radiological Sciences Department at the college and Acting Head of the Department, Dr. Leila Ghandafur stated that the college organizes this celebration every year in conjunction with the World Radiology Day, which creates a new atmosphere for the college students, away from the routine and academic pressure. This fosters a sense of creativity among the students and increases their love for their distinguished major, which is in demand in the job market, especially in the medical sector in Kuwait. We should not forget the noble message this event represents to the entire community, raising awareness about the importance of this major. She expressed her gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this event, including the college administration, the Radiology Department, and the students who played a major role. We also remember our esteemed guests from outside the college who enriched this event.
Dr. Raed Al-Saeed, the head of the organizing committee for the event, praised the event and confirmed that this type of event usually leaves a positive impact on the department's students and increases their attachment and love for the profession.
For her part, the head of the radiology department at Al-Amiri Hospital, Mona Ashkanani, mentioned in a lecture that the beginnings of the radiology technician profession were different on many levels, starting from the number of graduates to Kuwaiti technicians, reaching the initial work difficulties in hospitals, in addition to the risks in darkrooms and the challenges of re-imaging, as well as the challenges faced by technicians after the brutal invasion of Kuwait and how they were overcome.
Ms. Ashkanani emphasized Ashkanani emphasized the importance of the radiology technician's role, as they are essentially the face of the radiology department and the link between the doctor and the patient. She explained that the radiology technician is the one who enables the doctor to write the correct report and diagnose the condition. Additionally, they explain the type of examination to the patient and are the ones who directly interact with the patient, absorbing their anger and tension at times. This requires the technician to have diplomacy and intelligence in communicating and dealing with the patient.
In the same context, radiology specialist at Farwaniya Hospital, Latifa Sabah Al-Mutairi, discussed the development and qualitative leap in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine departments thanks to the presence of digital technology and artificial intelligence in our time, especially with the advancement of science and medical devices. Al-Mutairi presented several modern applications currently used in radiology departments, emphasizing the importance of keeping up with these developments to elevate the profession of radiology and nuclear medicine.
The ceremony included a special exhibition on radiology sciences, featuring activities in which students participated, adding a unique and different touch to the event beyond the purely educational framework.

On the occasion of World Radiology Day, the College of Health Sciences at Kuwait University organized a series of events, which included an exhibition accompanying an introductory seminar on diagnostic radiology, under the supervision of the Acting Head of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Dr. Leila Ghandaf and the faculty members in the scientific department and the students of the department, last Monday at the college's location on the university campus - Jabriya.
At the beginning, the Dean of the College of Allied Medical Sciences, Dr. Suad Al-Fadhli attended and expressed her gratitude to those in charge of the World Radiology Day event, which was held under the supervision of Dr. Leila Ghandour and the faculty members in the department, and this event aims to convey an awareness message by highlighting the effective role of the Radiology Department in diagnosing diseases, in addition to achieving the college's goals of providing quality community services thru organizing such events.
And Dr. Al-Fadhli stated that World Radiology Day is an annual event organized by the college administration to raise awareness of the value of this science and its contribution to providing safe patient care, highlighting its role in enhancing the vital role played by radiologists and technicians in healthcare. Medical imaging is considered one of the most exciting and advanced specialties in the healthcare sector, and it is a large and active field in terms of biological and technological research.
For her part, Acting Head of the Diagnostic Radiology Department Dr. Dr. Leila Ghandafur mentioned that medical imaging was initially focused on diagnosis and has evolved in modern directions, primarily in the therapeutic field. It started with X-rays and developed over the years to include ultrasound imaging, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging, highlighting the history of radiology from its discovery to the present day.
The Dean of the College of Health Sciences, Dr. Dr. Dr. Suad Al-Fadhli on a tour inside the exhibition, which included activities and events aimed at introducing the Radiology Department, its origins, types of radiology devices, and endoscopy devices, in addition to providing educational and awareness information about radiology, and correcting misconceptions in the community about radiology and medical imaging.
