Nature of study in the Department of Audiology and Speech Sciences
The program offers a bachelor’s degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences. Students study over four years. In the first year, they study general science subjects shared by the college and other colleges at Kuwait University, such as chemistry, mathematics, medical physics, and first aid. Students must complete approximately thirty credit hours. In the second year, the student studies subjects such as anatomy, physiology, psychology, an introduction to hearing and speech sciences, biostatistics, and computer science, and passes another thirty academic units. In the third and fourth years, students study specialized subjects such as pathology, patient examination methods, patient care, clinical training, and research papers. They complete approximately 60 credit hours in both years. The total number of credit hours required for graduation is approximately 120. The college contains classrooms and laboratories equipped with the latest equipment to accommodate normal students or those with special needs, including facilities for students to enter and exit the hall with a wheelchair, microphones and sound amplification devices and ease of access to the lecturer during his office hours or communication via the team, and other facilities including distributing lecture summaries or taking mid-term or final exams.
