The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at the College of Allied Health Sciences at Kuwait University organized a specialized training workshop titled "Safe Blood Draw Techniques" on January 27, 2026, as part of its academic efforts aimed at qualifying medical laboratory students and developing their practical skills according to the approved quality and safety standards.

The assistant professor in the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, Dr.Fatma Al-Marji said that this workshop aims to raise students' awareness of the importance of safe blood draw and to highlight the role of the pre-analytical phase in ensuring the accuracy of laboratory results and patient safety, as it is one of the most error-prone stages that can directly impact clinical decisions.

The doctor added, saying, "Organizing such specialized training workshops aligns with the vision of the department and the college to develop educational outcomes, enhance students' readiness for the job market in accordance with academic accreditation requirements, and contribute to preparing qualified national cadres capable of practicing the profession with high responsibility and efficiency."

The scientific program of the workshop included a theoretical lecture presented by Greiner Bio-One titled "The Art of Venipuncture," during which the basic principles of blood collection according to the best approved practices were reviewed, along with a scientific lecture presented by Dr.Fatma Al-Marji, titled (Post-Tube: Mastering the Pre-Analytical Phase for Accurate Results), discussed the most prominent pre-analytical errors and their impact on laboratory test results and patient safety, linking them to recognized quality standards, and highlighting the pivotal role of medical laboratory specialists in minimizing these errors before they reach the analytical stage.

The workshop also included an intensive practical component, where students received direct hands-on training using a specialized artificial hand for blood withdrawal. This allowed them to practice the skill in a safe educational environment that simulates the clinical reality, contributing to the development of competence and professional confidence without exposing patients to any risk.
